In this text, IRMTravel intends to examine several natural and historical attractions near Damavand Mountain.

  • Kafar Keli ancient caves

The stone tombs (hanmade caves) of Kafar Keli make it an architectural space.  Some caves or stone crypts are located in Mazandaran province close to Rineh village in a place named Polemoon and some of them are located between Larijan and Filband. Compared with many caves of this region, it can be said that Kafar Keli caves are special and unique.  These caves had kitchens, toilets, tanks, and water pipes. Inside the cliffs, some stairs make it possible to move between floors. Researchers haven’t found strong reasons for the existence of this cave in the heart of the region yet. Archaeologists have attributed the pottery left in these caves to the early Islamic period of Iran. This period belongs to the Sassanid era and about a thousand years ago.  Accordingly, researchers say that it is more likely that the people of these areas built these caves as homes in the heart of the mountain because these are hard to scape  when Arabs invaded.  Of course, the naming of these caves also confirms what the researchers said. "Keli" in Mazandarani language means house and place of residence and Kafar Keli means place of non-Muslim residence. (Kafar or Kafir means non-Muslim people) One of the remarkable features of these cave houses is their guard post. These parts of the caves are built in a very convenient and special position, which shows the importance of high security for homeowners. These headquarters are mostly located on the second and third floors of the cave.  Some of the caves have an entrance and some others have access to the upper floors through corridors through a one-meter hole in the roof.

  • Malek Bahman Castle

Malek Bahman Castle or Shahdanasht Castle is located above Shahandasht Waterfall in Mazandaran Province. This castle is one of the largest mountain castles in Alborz, which is made of stone and mortar. The castle is located on a rock with a height of 220 meters above the ground of Shahandasht and with a multi-story building, it includes rooms and different parts of the building. Malek Bahman belonged to the rulers of Baduspanids who ruled over Royan, Noor, Kojur, and Rostamdar. Today, the entrance of the castle is closed so climbers should climb through the south wall of the castle using gears and safety precautions. The castle is almost destroyed due to the rain and the excavations of treasure hunters. The remains of huge stone walls around the castle, several rooms by the waterfall, entrance, several high stairs, thick walls, and towers above the castle are some of the castle's safe places. For reaching Malek Bahman Castle, first continue to Haraz road, 75 km from Amol city, Larijan section, Shahandasht village is located above Shahandasht waterfall.
